Basaltic dykes and their xenoliths from the Gerroa–Kiama region, southern Sydney Basin, New South Wales: evidence for multiple intrusive episodes

چکیده

The orientation, petrography and geochemistry of numerous basaltic dykes between Kiama Gerroa were investigated in this study. Geochemical analysis shows that the range from sub-alkaline to alkaline composition. fit into three distinct geochemical groups, with most being transitional alkali basalts foidites, followed by lastly andesites/basaltic andesites. We suggest intrusive episodes occurred based on petrographic classification. contain phenocrysts olivine, plagioclase clinopyroxene a fine-grained groundmass. Multiple microtextures found, including porphyritic, glomeroporphyritic, amygdaloidal, aphanitic intergranular. Most strike northwest–southeast, two east–west, four northeast–southwest. One dyke south Boat Harbour Reserve contains xenoliths, gabbroic, granitic charnockitic types. gabbroic xenoliths likely sourced mid-crust, whereas derived upper crust. Joints study area north–south, east–west dominant joint set strikes secondary sets least pervasive approximately north–south. intruded along long-lived inherent structural weaknesses host rocks, as their orientations match sets. Geochemically, are having an abundance which rare within Sydney Basin. They clearly different nearby Permian K-rich Gerringong Volcanics, but many like those Basin, foidites similar composition lower Eocene Kulnura basalt NSW Central Coast. geographic distribution strongly magmas have been injected through same upper-crustal over protracted period. KEY POINTSDykes occurring fall under separate groups: andesites.Three classification. The rocks.

recracking of jointed rock masses in the sydney basin, new south wales, australia*

fracture mapping of late permian-early triassic flat-lying sedimentary rocks in the sydney basin, new south wales, australia, shows that joints developed originally in extension were faulted in subsequentevents. joints with a regional distribution fall into two (early and late) formed groups. group i joints propagatedhorizontally and never interfered with each other. these joints were subsequent...

Influenza related hospitalisations in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

BACKGROUND Routine influenza vaccination for children aged 6-23 months has recently been recommended in the United States. Accurate assessment of influenza related burden of illness in children could support similar recommendations in other settings. However, routinely available data underestimate the role of influenza in causing hospitalisation, and indirect estimation methods face difficultie...

Review of Structure and Basement Control of the Lapstone Structural Complex, Sydney Basin, Eastern New South Wales

In the western Sydney Basin, the Lapstone Structural Complex is a major north-trending association of monoclines and faults that forms the frontal ridge of the Blue Mountains Plateau. At Kurrajong Heights, the Lapstone Structural Complex is dominated by an eastfacing monocline with a gently dipping central limb containing several different homoclinal segments. At the Hawkesbury Lookout section,...

The origin of Proterozoic massif-type anorthosites: evidence from interactions between crustal xenoliths and basaltic magma

Plagioclase-rich reaction zones occur around numerous aluminous crustal xenoliths within a suite of Palaeogene sub-volcanic basic sheets on the Isle of Mull, NW Scotland. The xenoliths consist of a glassy core, containing mullite needles, generated from the melting of pelitic source rocks. Thick plagioclase mantles grew at the interface between the aluminous liquid and the enclosing basaltic ma...
